If you've started to wonder what the real costs of "socialism" are going to be, once the full program in these United States hits your wallet, take a look at the table. As you digest these mind-boggling figures, keep in mind that in spite of these astronomical tax rates, these countries are still not financing their social welfare programs exclusively from tax revenues!
They are deeply mired in public debt of gargantuan proportions. Greece has reached the point where its debt is so huge it is in imminent danger of defaulting. That is the reason the European economic community has intervened to bail them out. If you're following the financial news, you know Spain and Portugal are right behind Greece.
The United States is now heading right down the same path. The "VAT" tax in the table is the national sales tax that Europeans pay. Stay tuned because that is exactly what you can expect to see the administration proposing after the fall elections. The initial percentage in the United States isn't going to be anywhere near the outrageous numbers you now see in Europe.
Guess what, the current outrageous numbers in Europe didn't start out as outrageous either. They started out as miniscule-right around the 1% or 2% where they will start out in the United States. Magically however, they ran up over the years to where they are now. Expect the same thing here.
It's time to rethink the 'American Dream' idea: It is the notion that with hard work and perseverance, anybody can get ahead economically here. Do you think that can ever happen with tax rates between 60% and 80%? Think again. With the government taking that percentage of your money, your life will be exactly like life in Europe. You will never be able to buy a home. You will never buy a car. You will never send your children to college.
Let's not shuffle the battle cry of the socialists under the rug either. It's always the same cry. "Equalize" income. "Spread the wealth" to the "poor" (whoever they are). "Level" the economic playing field. Accomplish that and everything will be rosy.
It's time to take a really hard look at reality. Greece is a perfect example. Despite the "socialism" system that has ruled this country for decades, with a 65% tax rate, they are drowning in public debt, would have defaulted without hundreds of billions in bailout money, and still. . .20% of their population lives in "poverty." What has all that "socialism" money bought, besides ultimate power for the politicians running the show? Do you think these people are "free"? They're not. They are slaves to their economic "system."
People, we are at a tipping point in America. We all know it. Turn this around right now or your grandchildren will be massing in the streets of this once-great country, just as the people of Greece now are.
Economic slavery is slavery, just the same. Carefully and deeply consider what it takes to throw off the yoke of slavery, once it takes hold and settles over your neck.

Corporate America has signed on to the idea that minorities and third world immigrants should get special, privileged status. Some examples are Exxon, Texaco, Merrill Lynch, Boeing, Paine Weber, Starbucks and many more.

A Wall Street Journal editorial dated December 5, 1994 quotes law enforcement officials as stating that Asian mobsters are the "greatest criminal challenge the country faces." Not bad for a group that is still under 5% of the population.

"Imagine teachers in classes containing 30-40 students of widely varying attention spans and motivation, many of whom aren't fluent in English. For all of you out there in America and across the globe who have fought so hard to tackle the hideous enemy of our planet, namely carbon emissions, that bogus god you worship named "Climate Change" or "Global Warming", there is some really bad news that will be very painful for you to process. But it is my duty to pass it on to you anyway.

Okay, here's the bombshell. The current volcanic eruption going on in Iceland, since it first started spewing volcanic ash a week ago, has, to this point, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet.
I know, I know... (have a group hug)...it's very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up til midnight to finish your kid's "The Green Revolution" science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, going on vacation to a city park instead of Yosemite, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your $1 light bulbs with $10 light bulbs ....well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just the past week.
The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth's atmosphere in the past week has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And, those hundreds of thousands of American jobs you helped move to Asia with expensive emissions demands on businesses... You know, the ones that are creating even more emissions than when they were creating American jobs, well that must seem really worthwhile now.
I'm so sorry. And I do wish that there was some kind of a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud but the fact of the matter is that the brush fire season across the western U.S.A. Will start in about two months and those fires will negate your efforts to reduce carbon emissions in our world for the next two years.

I Have Talked about Europe Being Lost Now Hear It From One OF Their Own
This is a long read but please take the time it is very informative and paints the true picture of what is happening all across Europe today. Based on my contacts with friends this confirms what I have been hearing for the past 2 years. Europe let the muslims come in just like we did the mexicans and look what happened. We might be in the final stages of the Islamization of Europe. This not only is a clear and present danger to the future of Europe itself, it is a threat to America and the sheer survival of the West. The United States as the last bastion of Western civilization, facing an Islamic Europe.
First I will describe the situation on the ground in Europe . Then, I will say a few things about Islam. To close I will tell you about a meeting in Jerusalem .
The Europe you know is changing.
You have probably seen the landmarks. But in
all of these cities, sometimes a few blocks away from your tourist destination, there is another world. It is the world of the parallel society created by Muslim mass-migration.
All throughout Europe a new reality is rising: entire Muslim neighborhoods where very few indigenous people reside or are even seen.
And if they are, they might regret it. This goes for the police as well. It's the world of head scarves, where women walk around in figureless tents, with baby strollers and a group of children. Their husbands, or slaveholders if you prefer, walk three steps ahead. With mosques on many street corners. The shops have signs you and I cannot read. You will be hard-pressed to find any economic activity. These are Muslim ghettos controlled by religious fanatics.
These are Muslim neighborhoods, and they are mushrooming in every city across Europe . These are the building-blocks for territorial control of increasingly larger portions of Europe , street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood, city by city.
There are now thousands of mosques throughout Europe . With larger congregations than there are in churches. And in every European city there are plans to build super-mosques that will dwarf every church in the region. Clearly, the signal is: we rule.
Many European cities are already one-quarter Muslim: just take Amsterdam , Marseille and Malmo in Sweden . In many cities the majority of the under-18 population is Muslim. Paris is now surrounded by a ring of Muslim neighborhoods. Mohammed is the most popular name among boys in many cities.
In some elementary schools in Amsterdam the farm can no longer be mentioned, because that would also mean mentioning the pig, and that would be an insult to Muslims.
Many state schools in Belgium and Denmark only serve halal food to all pupils. In once-tolerant Amsterdam gays are beaten up almost exclusively by Muslims. Non-Muslim women routinely hear 'whore, whore'. Satellite dishes are not pointed to local TV stations, but to stations in the country of origin.
In France school teachers are advised to avoid authors deemed offensive to Muslims, including Voltaire and Diderot; the same is increasingly true of Darwin. The history of the Holocaust
can no longer be taught because of Muslim sensitivity.
In England sharia courts are now officially part of the British legal system. Many neighborhoods in France are no-go areas for women without head scarves. Last week a man almost died after being beaten up by Muslims in Brussels , because he was drinking during the Ramadan.
Jews are fleeing France in record numbers, on the run for the worst wave of anti-Semitism since World War II. French is now commonly spoken on the streets of Tel Aviv and Netanya , Israel . I could go on forever with stories like this. Stories about Islamization.
A total of fifty-four million Muslims now live in Europe . San Diego University recently calculated that a staggering 25 percent of the population in Europe will be Muslim just 12 years from now. Bernhard Lewis has predicted a Muslim majority by the end of this century.
Now these are just numbers. And the numbers would not be threatening if the Muslim-immigrants had a strong desire to assimilate. But there are few signs of that. The Pew Research Center reported that half of French Muslims see their loyalty to Islam as greater than their loyalty to France . One-third of French Muslims do not object to suicide attacks. The British Centre for Social Cohesion reported that one-third of British Muslim students are in favor of a worldwide caliphate (Muslims demand a unified federal Islamic government for the Muslim world, ruled by an elected head of state or caliph) Muslims demand what they call 'respect'. And this is how we give them respect. We have Muslim official state holidays.
The Christian-Democratic attorney general is willing to accept sharia in the Netherlands if there is a Muslim majority. We have cabinet members with passports from Morocco and Turkey .
Muslim demands are supported by unlawful behavior, ranging from petty crimes and random violence, for example against ambulance workers and bus drivers, to small-scale riots. Paris has seen its uprising in the low-income suburbs, the banlieus. I call the perpetrators 'settlers'. Because that is what they are. They do not come to integrate into our societies; they come to integrate our society into their Dar-al-Islam. (areas where Muslims are in the majority) Therefore, they are settlers.
Much of this street violence I mentioned is directed exclusively against non-Muslims,
forcing many native people to leave their neighborhoods, their cities, their countries. Moreover, Muslims are now a swing vote
not to be ignored.
The second thing you need to know is the importance of Mohammed the prophet. His behavior is an example to all Muslims and
cannot be criticized. Now, if Mohammed had been a man of peace, let us say like Ghandi
and Mother Theresa wrapped in one, there would be no problem. But Mohammed was a warlord, a mass murderer, a pedophile, and
had several marriages - at the same time. Islamic tradition tells us how he fought in battles, how he had his enemies murdered and even had prisoners of war executed. Mohammed himself slaughtered the Jewish tribe of Banu Qurayza.
If it is good for Islam, it is good. If it is bad for Islam, it is bad.
Let no one fool you about Islam being a religion. Sure, it has a god, and a here-after, and 72 virgins. But in its essence Islam is a political ideology. It is a system that lays down detailed rules for society and the life of every person. Islam wants to dictate every aspect of life. Islam means 'submission'. Islam is not compatible with freedom and democracy, because what it strives for is sharia. If you want to compare Islam to anything, compare it to communism or national-socialism, these are all totalitarian ideologies.
Now you know why Winston Churchill called Islam 'the most retrograde force in the world', and why he compared Mein Kampf to the Quran. The public has wholeheartedly accepted the Palestinian narrative, and sees Israel as the aggressor. I have lived in this country and visited it dozens of times. I support Israel .
First, because it is the Jewish homeland after two thousand years of exile up to and including Auschwitz, second because it is a democracy, and third because Israel is our first line of defense.
This tiny country is situated on the fault line of jihad, frustrating Islam's territorial advance. Israel is facing the front lines of jihad, like Kashmir, Kosovo, the Philippines , Southern Thailand, Darfur in Sudan , Lebanon , and Aceh in Indonesia. Israel is simply in the way. The same way West-Berlin was during the Cold War.
The war against Israel is not a war against Israel. It is a war against the West. It is jihad. Israel is simply receiving the blows that are meant for all of us. If there would have been
no Israel , Islamic imperialism would have found other venues to release its energy and its desire for conquest. Thanks to Israeli parents who send their children to the army and lay awake at night, parents in Europe and America can sleep well and dream, unaware of the dangers looming.
Many in Europe argue in favor of abandoning Israel in order to address the grievances of our Muslim minorities. But if Israel were, God forbid, to go down, it would not bring any solace to the West. It would not mean our Muslim minorities would all of a sudden change their behavior, and accept our values. On the contrary, the end of Israel would give enormous encouragement to the forces of Islam. They would, and rightly so, see the demise of Israel as proof that the West is weak, and doomed. The end of Israel would not mean the end of our problems with Islam, but only the beginning. It would mean the start of the final battle for world domination. If they can get Israel, they can get everything. So-called journalists volunteer to label any and all critics
of Islamization as a 'right-wing extremists' or 'racists'. In my country, the Netherlands , 60 percent of the population now sees the mass immigration of Muslims as the number one policy mistake since World War II. And another 60 percent sees Islam as the biggest threat. Yet there is a greater danger than terrorist attacks, the scenario of America as the last man standing. The lights may go out in Europe faster than you can imagine. An Islamic Europe means a Europe without freedom and democracy, an economic wasteland, an intellectual nightmare, and a loss of military might for America - as its allies will turn into enemies, enemies with atomic bombs. With an Islamic Europe, it would be up to America alone to preserve the heritage of Rome, Athens and Jerusalem ...
Dear friends, liberty is the most precious of gifts. My generation never had to fight for this freedom, it was offered to us on a silver platter, by people who fought for it with their lives. All throughout Europe , American cemeteries remind us of the young boys who never made it home, and whose memory we cherish. My generation does not own this freedom; we are merely its custodians. We can only hand over this hard won liberty to Europe 's children in the same state in which it was offered to us. We cannot strike a deal with mullahs and imams. Future generations would never forgive us.
We cannot squander our liberties. We simply
do not have the right to do so.
We have to take the necessary action now to stop this Islamic stupidity from destroying the free world that we know.

Unions: Those who give to politicians expect a lot in return. That's clear from the budget-busting payoffs directed largely at organized labor by Democrats in Congress and the White House.
A bill making its way through the Senate would bail out union pension funds to the tune of $165 billion. The bill's author, Democratic Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, wants the public to pay for the gold-plated union retirement benefits that the funds have mismanaged into oblivion.
This has to be galling to average working saps who watch as their 401(k)s and IRAs plummet, only to be asked to pony up billions of dollars in subsidies for unionized workers — many of whom get to retire into the lap of unlabored luxury while still in their 50s.
Casey's bill isn't the only gift that the White House and Congress have for the unions. Last year, economist and columnist Ben Stein estimated that as much as half of the $862 billion stimulus would go to unions, directly or indirectly. Even that might underestimate organized labor's take.
And just last week, the White House proposed $23 billion in aid to states for education. For education? Well, in point of fact, increased federal involvement in education has had zero positive effect on test scores.
So this money has nothing to do with "the children" or schooling. It has everything to do with teacher unions, which will see billions in payouts from money ostensibly intended for school kids.
In short: bailouts for the unions; higher taxes and penury for you.
So beholden to the unions have the Democrats become, it's fair to say they are a de facto Organized Labor Party — a far more accurate name than "Democrats."
Don't agree? According to OpenSecrets.org, 12 of the 20 biggest spenders on public elections since 1989 have been unions. In just the 2008 election alone, unions spent $400 million dollars. Virtually all of it went to Democrats.
This shocks even those on the left. "Four hundred million dollars on one election cycle," wrote David Macaray of the lefty CounterPunch, a Web magazine. "What on God's earth were they thinking?"
Well, now they're getting their payback — kickbacks, if you will — in the form of massive, billion-dollar public projects that come straight from the pockets of nonunion taxpayers and add further to the fiscal ruin of our nation, now $13 trillion — and rising — in debt.

Unions: Those who give to politicians expect a lot in return. That's clear from the budget-busting payoffs directed largely at organized labor by Democrats in Congress and the White House.
A bill making its way through the Senate would bail out union pension funds to the tune of $165 billion. The bill's author, Democratic Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, wants the public to pay for the gold-plated union retirement benefits that the funds have mismanaged into oblivion.
This has to be galling to average working saps who watch as their 401(k)s and IRAs plummet, only to be asked to pony up billions of dollars in subsidies for unionized workers — many of whom get to retire into the lap of unlabored luxury while still in their 50s.
Casey's bill isn't the only gift that the White House and Congress have for the unions. Last year, economist and columnist Ben Stein estimated that as much as half of the $862 billion stimulus would go to unions, directly or indirectly. Even that might underestimate organized labor's take.
And just last week, the White House proposed $23 billion in aid to states for education. For education? Well, in point of fact, increased federal involvement in education has had zero positive effect on test scores.
So this money has nothing to do with "the children" or schooling. It has everything to do with teacher unions, which will see billions in payouts from money ostensibly intended for school kids.
In short: bailouts for the unions; higher taxes and penury for you.
So beholden to the unions have the Democrats become, it's fair to say they are a de facto Organized Labor Party — a far more accurate name than "Democrats."
Don't agree? According to OpenSecrets.org, 12 of the 20 biggest spenders on public elections since 1989 have been unions. In just the 2008 election alone, unions spent $400 million dollars. Virtually all of it went to Democrats.
This shocks even those on the left. "Four hundred million dollars on one election cycle," wrote David Macaray of the lefty CounterPunch, a Web magazine. "What on God's earth were they thinking?"
Well, now they're getting their payback — kickbacks, if you will — in the form of massive, billion-dollar public projects that come straight from the pockets of nonunion taxpayers and add further to the fiscal ruin of our nation, now $13 trillion — and rising — in debt.

AARP Is Trying To Help Seniors But
I still think they sold our on the Health Care Bill as the profit from Insurance is what drives them. Not membership dues from members...
But I will give them slack on the below issues on COLA on medicare and on the Congress plans for a salary increase... I want to be fair
The Social Security COLA is prescribed by law to track the Consumer Price Index, so the Congress has nothing to do with setting the COLA. This has been the case since 1975. While we could certainly argue that the COLA may not be reflective of the various inflationary factors seniors, and others, face (for example, under-representing the impact of higher medical costs on older adults), AARP has focused our advocacy efforts on support for a one-time payment to Social Security recipients since there was no COLA this year. The independent Politifact.com site run by the St. Petersburg Times classifies this email as “Pants on Fire” in regard to its truthfulness.

Facts On Border Crossing Concerns
A TV station from Atlanta last week ran a multi-part documentary addressing illegal immigration along the AZ border. I think this video from a once secure voting base has something to do with the decision today to deploy AZ Natl Guard troops to the border.

Obama's lazy tribute to Daniel Pearl

Barack Obama's remarkable powers of oratory are well known: In support of Chicago's Olympic bid, he flew into Copenhagen to give a heartwarming speech about himself, and they gave the games to Rio. He flew into Boston to support Martha Coakley's bid for the U.S. Senate, and Massachusetts voters gave Ted Kennedy's seat to a Republican. In the first year of his presidency, he gave a gazillion speeches on health care "reform" and drove support for his proposals to basement level, leaving Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to ram it down the throats of the American people through sheer parliamentary muscle.
Like a lot of guys who've been told they're brilliant one time too often, President Obama gets a little lazy, and doesn't always choose his words with care. And so it was that he came to say a few words about Daniel Pearl, upon signing the "Daniel Pearl Press Freedom Act." Pearl was decapitated on video by jihadist Muslims in Karachi on Feb. 1, 2002. That's how I'd put it. This is what the president of the United States said:
"Obviously, the loss of Daniel Pearl was one of those moments that captured the world's imagination because it reminded us of how valuable a free press is."
Now Obama's off the prompter, when his silver-tongued rhetoric invariably turns to sludge. But he's talking about a dead man here, a guy murdered in public for all the world to see. Furthermore, the deceased's family is standing all around him. And, even for a busy president, it's the work of moments to come up with a sentence that would be respectful, moving and true. Indeed, for Obama, it's the work of seconds, because he has a taxpayer-funded staff sitting around all day with nothing to do but provide him with that sentence.
Instead, he delivered the one above, which in its clumsiness and insipidness is most revealing. First of all, note the passivity: "The loss of Daniel Pearl." He wasn't "lost." He was kidnapped and beheaded. He was murdered on a snuff video. He was specifically targeted, seized as a trophy, a high-value scalp. And the circumstances of his "loss" merit some vigor in the prose. Yet Obama can muster none.
Even if Americans don't get the message, the rest of the world does. This week's pictures of the leaders of Brazil and Turkey clasping hands with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are also monuments to American passivity.
But what did the "loss" of Daniel Pearl mean? Well, says the president, it was "one of those moments that captured the world's imagination." Really? Evidently it never captured Obama's imagination because, if it had, he could never have uttered anything so fatuous. He seems literally unable to imagine Pearl's fate, and so, cruising on autopilot, he reaches for the all-purpose bromides of therapeutic sedation: "one of those moments" – you know, like Princess Di's wedding, Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction, whatever – "that captured the world's imagination."
Notice how reflexively Obama lapses into sentimental one-worldism: Despite our many zip codes, we are one people, with a single imagination. In fact, the murder of Daniel Pearl teaches just the opposite – that we are many worlds, and worlds within worlds. Some of them don't even need an "imagination." Across the planet, the video of an American getting his head sawed off did brisk business in the bazaars and madrassahs and Internet downloads.
Excited young men e-mailed it to friends, from cell phone to cell phone, from Karachi to Jakarta to Khartoum to London to Toronto to Falls Church, Virginia. In the old days, you needed an "imagination" to conjure the juicy bits of a distant victory over the Great Satan. But in an age of high-tech barbarism the sight of Pearl's severed head is a mere click away.
And the rest of "the world"? Most gave a shrug of indifference. And far too many found the reality of Pearl's death too uncomfortable, and chose to take refuge in the same kind of delusional pap as Obama. The president is only the latest Western liberal to try to hammer Daniel Pearl's box into a round hole.
Before him, it was Michael Winterbottom in his film "A Mighty Heart": As Pearl's longtime colleague Asra Nomani wrote, "Danny himself had been cut from his own story." Or as Paramount's promotional department put it, "Nominate the most inspiring ordinary hero. Win a trip to the Bahamas!" Where you're highly unlikely to be kidnapped and beheaded! (Although, in the event that you are, please check the liability-waiver box at the foot of the entry form.)
The latest appropriation that his "loss" "reminded us of how valuable a free press is." It was nothing to do with "freedom of the press." By the standards of the Muslim world, Pakistan has a free-ish and very lively press. The problem is that some 80 percent of its people wish to live under the most extreme form of Sharia, and many of its youth are exported around the world in advance of that aim. The man convicted of Pearl's murder was Omar Sheikh, a British subject, a London School of Economics student, and, like many jihadists from Osama to the Pantybomber, a monument to the peculiar burdens of a non-deprived childhood in the Muslim world. The man who actually did the deed was Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who confessed in March 2007: "I decapitated with my blessed right hand the head of the American Jew Daniel Pearl, in the city of Karachi." But Obama's not the kind to take "guilty" for an answer, so he's arranging a hugely expensive trial for KSM amid the bright lights of Broadway.
Listen to his killer's words: "The American Jew Daniel Pearl." We hit the jackpot! And then we cut his head off. Before the body was found, The Independent's Robert Fisk offered a familiar argument to Pearl's kidnappers: Killing him would be "a major blunder... the best way of ensuring that the suffering" – of Kashmiris, Afghans, Palestinians – "goes unrecorded." Other journalists peddled a similar line: if you release Danny, he'll be able to tell your story, get your message out, "bridge the misconceptions." But the story did get out; the severed head is the message; the only misconception is that that's a misconception.
Daniel Pearl was the prototype for a new kind of terror. In his wake came other victims from Kenneth Bigley, whose last words were that "Tony Blair has not done enough for me," to Fabrizzio Quattrocchi, who yanked off his hood, yelled "I will show you how an Italian dies!" and ruined the movie for his jihadist videographers. By that time, both men understood what it meant to be in a windowless room with a camera and a man holding a scimitar. But Daniel Pearl was the first, and in his calm, coherent final words understood why he was there:
"My name is Daniel Pearl. I am a Jewish American from Encino, California, USA ..."
He didn't have a prompter. But he spoke the truth. That's all President Obama owed him – to do the same.
I mentioned last week the attorney general's peculiar insistence that "radical Islam" was nothing to do with the Times Square bomber, the Pantybomber, the Fort Hood killer. Just a lot of moments "capturing the world's imagination."
For now, the jihadists seem to have ceased cutting our heads off. Listening to Obama and Eric Holder, perhaps they've figured out there's nothing much up there anyway.

kagan on the Court ??????
Dear Friend,
Round Two has begun. And you and I can't afford to sit this one out!
Last year, President Obama filled his first vacancy to the U.S. Supreme Court with Sonia Sotomayor, who has since voted in lockstep with the Court's liberal wing.
Now, he has the chance to further solidify the Left-leaning makeup of the Court with his appointment to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens: current Solicitor General Elena Kagan.
Our disappointment about the Kagan nomination is centered on three concerns: She has absolutely no judicial experience; she worked vigorously to ban military recruiters from the Harvard Campus because she disagrees with the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy; and she has revealed her pro-abortion views by publicly criticizing federal bans on tax-payer funded abortions.
1 Further, we know that President Obama said that while he had no "litmus test" for his nominee, he would make sure his choice "takes into account individual rights, and that includes women's rights," which we know means protecting the right to abortion on demand.
2 And in light of her past involvement with, and current support from, leading abortion groups, it looks like the president has delivered the pro-abortion nominee he promised.
3If Solicitor General Kagan is confirmed to the high court, the results could radically restructure America's future.
You know what the Supreme Court has already done via Roe v. Wade and other infamous cases. But just imagine how the headlines would read if the president secures a majority on the Court that believes the Constitution is a "living, breathing document":
• Marriage overturned: Court orders same-sex unions in all 50 states
• Court dumps pro-life laws: No limitations on abortion
• Game changer: Court says sexual orientation trumps religious liberty
I could go on, but you get the idea. And that list of headlines is no exaggeration. In fact, there are already cases in the lower courts that could lead to each of those headlines.
Marriage attacked in the courts … and by the Obama Administration
Take the issue of marriage. As you may know, the marriage amendment in California (Prop 8) backed by Focus of the Family® is being challenged right now in federal court in San Francisco. All indications are that the judge—who has consistently sided with opponents of Prop 8—will overturn the vote of Californians and re-impose same-sex marriage.
But however the judge rules, the next stop for Prop 8 will be the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. You may recognize that court as the most extreme of all of the circuit courts, known for having its decisions overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court more than any other circuit.

Who did President Obama just nominate to the 9th Circuit? Goodwin Liu, a Berkeley law professor who holds alarming views about the Constitution and marriage, among other things. He believes that the Constitution should be interpreted by adapting its broad principles to the conditions faced by each generation, not what was written by our Founding Fathers for all generations. He also strongly implied in a written brief that same-sex marriage is supported by the U.S. Constitution.
4 If Liu is confirmed by the Senate, he could be able to vote on Prop 8 when it gets to the 9th Circuit. That could help ensure that the challenge of Prop 8 reaches the U.S. Supreme Court, where a Justice Kagan could help decide the fate of marriage.
But President Obama's nomination of Liu shouldn't be shocking, considering what the president's own administration, along with Congress, has done to undermine marriage in the past several weeks:
• The U.S. Census Bureau instructed same-sex couples to report themselves as married if they feel they are married—even in the 30 states that have constitutional amendments protecting marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
5 The House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct drafted—and then retracted—forms that recognize same-sex couples as "spouses" for the purpose of completing financial disclosure paperwork for elected officials and senior congressional staffers.
6• The president ordered the Department of Health and Human Services to further investigate and recommend actions regarding "hospital visitation, medical decision-making, or other health care issues"—specifically for homosexual, bisexual or transgender individuals, but notably excluding other non-married persons.7
Each of these moves is a step toward repealing the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, the law that protects marriage as the union of a man and a woman for all federal purposes—which was passed with strong bipartisan majorities in Congress and was signed into law by President Clinton. And each of them helps set the stage for the ultimate battle: a Supreme Court case on marriage.
Why you and I must do all we can on this Supreme Court nomination
Some may point to the Sotomayor confirmation last year and say that contesting the Kagan nomination is pointless. But the political climate is far different now than it was then, and many Democrats—especially those who are nearing difficult elections—are anxious to shed their Left-leaning reputations.
Moreover, what is ultimately at stake with the Court is so enormous that you and I simply cannot afford to not raise our voices for the good of marriage … life … our families … and our nation's future.
Plus, the more that you and I engage on this, the more the American people will awaken to what is happening. And polls show that a strong majority of Americans oppose activist judges and are less likely to support politicians who vote to confirm them.
That's why Focus on the Family Action is preparing to spend significant resources to oppose Kagan's confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court because she does not appear to adhere to a judicial philosophy of strictly interpreting the Constitution. Shotgun preteen vs. Illegal alien Home Invaders :
Butte, Montana November 5 , 2009
Two illegal aliens, Ralphel Resindez, 23, and Enrico Garza, 26, probably believed they would easily overpower home-alone 11 year old Patricia Harrington after her father had left their two-story home.
It seems the two crooks never learned two things: they were in Montana and Patricia had been a clay shooting champion since she was nine.
Patricia was in her upstairs room when the two men broke through the front door of the house. She quickly ran to her father's room and grabbed his 12 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun.
Resindez was the first to get up to the second floor only to be the first to catch a near point blank blast of buckshot from the 11-year-old's knee crouch aim. He suffered fatal wounds to his abdomen and genitals.
When Garza ran to the foot of the stairs, he took a blast to the left shoulder and staggered out into the street where he bled to death before medical help could arrive.
It was found out later that Resindez was armed with a stolen 45 caliber handgun he took from another home invasion robbery. That victim, 50-year-old David O'Burien, was not so lucky. He died from stab wounds to the chest.
Ever wonder why good stuff never makes NBC , CBS , PBS , MSNBC , CNN, or ABC news........an 11 year old girl, properly trained, defended her home, and herself......against two murderous, illegal immigrants......and she wins,
She is still alive.
Now that is Gun Control !

My name is d'Lynn. I'm a disabled Vietnam vet. I don't look too bad for a beat-up old fart, do I? And that's my ride. She's looking pretty good looking also, especially when you consider that she'll turn twenty this summer.
That's right, it's a 1990 with a 1990 sidecar. I can't ride a solo bike, ergo the sidecar rig. It's my sole means of transportation - rain or shine, snow or wind, and this summer also marks a milestone in both of our lives, as I will finally be able to pay her off.
Twenty years old? What? Why did it take so long? You weren't paying attention, were you? It's right at the beginning of this paragraph. I am a disabled vet, which means I receive a veterans administration disability pension, which also means "I'm broke!" Just one step ahead of being homeless every month, and that's not an idle statement or an"Oh, whoa is me" dire complaint. There’s a point to this, so hang in there a minute or two and read on.
There's a 25-year-old illegal immigrant woman living in Florida , with eight kids. Yes, eight "anchor babies" and she receives just shy of $1,500 per month per kid, plus medical, plus food stamps. Oh, wait. I've been informed that I shouldn't call them Food Stamps anymore.
That's not PC. It's all called “Social Assistance” now. You do the math on that yourself. I'd say that she was schooled early in how to make it in the system. Twenty-five years old, eight kids .. . . . . yep, she started early.
You can whip out the calculator if you want, but this women who never has paid a dime in taxes of any kind, (and still doesn't – she's 'illegal,' remember?) is here in this country illegally. She hasn’t paid one one cent in medical for all the “anchor babies,” makes more in one month, legally, than I receive in over a year and a half in disability payments and I can't even get food stamps! Oops, I mean “Social Assistance.”
Technically I am eligible for “Social Assistance.” I was told it would be a walk through – a gimme – being disabled. No problem, and in the very next breath I was also informed that under the law the amount I received in “Social Assistance” would be deducted from my disability pension.
Let's say I take a great photograph. It was just luck, a one of a kind accidental, in the right place at the right time shot. My local newspaper offers me fifty bucks to use the photo in a featured story. (I live in a small town and fifty bucks is all they could afford.) I have to report that fifty dollars to the VA as earned income, which will immediately be deducted from my next month’s disability check. If I don't report it I’m in violation of federal law and technically they can stop my disability pension and prosecute me under a federal felony. Pretty cool, eh? For fifty bucks.
I see no point in dealing with two federal bureaucracies, so I don't bother. What's the point?
She's here illegally and with just one kid would make over twice what I receive per month. She has eight and she’s not a stand-out case. She’s not alone. That's the way the system works.
Millions of illegal immigrants know this, know how the system works and know how to use it. (Haven't you seen the pamphlet? It's handed out all along our borders, "The Illegal Immigrants' Guide to Keeping America Just The Way It Is.") and that's just the way it works.
Did you know that the federal government provides a “refugee” in this country with a monthly “stipend” of $1,890, plus $580 a month in “Social Assistance?” That’s $2,470 a month, tax-free.
That's two and a half times what I’m allowed to receive as a disabled vet. And just what did they do to earn this? All you have to do is show up on our collective doorstep, raise your right hand and swear that you're a refugee and, bingo, receive $30,000 a year, tax-free. That's more than someone making $15 an hour, and they have to pay taxes to boot!
Now, in defense of the Veterans Administration, they are doing what they can with what they've got. This is precious little compared to what they should have to get the job done. At least this country has a VA. It's the Senate that keeps passing laws, rules and guidelines, cutting their budget, denying requests for more staff and computer systems to handle the massive work flow. Their hands are tied by the very government that's supposed to give them what they need to get the job done, by the government you voted into office.. Don't scream at the VA. I have. It's misguided anger.
The point to this “story?” Just why are you paying such high taxes to support this incredibly screwed-up government? Why? And I’m not proposing you stop paying your taxes. That's wrong. There are good programs and reasons to pay your taxes and support our government. What am I proposing? It's quite simple. Vote.
The government, our government, is broken and we as the voters serve as the maintenance crew. We fix it .. . .. . . by voting.
If your state Senator has been in office more then two terms, vote 'em out at the next election. If your state representative has been in office more then two terms, vote 'em out of office. We put term limits on just about every publicly-elected official in the country except the House and Senate. Why? Believe me, they know this and love it! Ahhh - the power!
I don't care how much you believe your Senator or Representative is doing a good job. They're not! Look at the government you have, that we have. How can you state they are doing what you want as the voter that put them there? How?
Vote them out of office. Do it.
Change the course of this country's history by what you are granted and guaranteed under the law. Vote! And if you have the guts, the anger, the outrage, start a petition in your state for a state-wide initiative to be placed on your next state ballot. Limiting the terms of office for your state senators and state representatives to your federal government to two terms.
The federal government will never pass such a law, but you can. You can get it done. You can force it. You can make it a law.
This is the first step in “getting it right.” Just vote. It's simple. It's easy, dammit!
This first step will send a very clear message. It’ll work. It’ill put “us” back in control of “them.” As it should be. As it was intended in the first place.

I have to report that fifty dollars to the VA as earned income, which will immediately be deducted from my next month’s disability check. If I don't report it I’m in violation of federal law and technically they can stop my disability pension and prosecute me under a federal felony. Pretty cool, eh? For fifty bucks.
I see no point in dealing with two federal bureaucracies, so I don't bother. What's the point?
She's here illegally and with just one kid would make over twice what I receive per month. She has eight and she’s not a stand-out case. She’s not alone. That's the way the system works.
Millions of illegal immigrants know this, know how the system works and know how to use it. (Haven't you seen the pamphlet? It's handed out all along our borders, "The Illegal Immigrants' Guide to Keeping America Just The Way It Is.") and that's just the way it works.
Did you know that the federal government provides a “refugee” in this country with a monthly “stipend” of $1,890, plus $580 a month in “Social Assistance?” That’s $2,470 a month, tax-free.
That's two and a half times what I’m allowed to receive as a disabled vet. And just what did they do to earn this? All you have to do is show up on our collective doorstep, raise your right hand and swear that you're a refugee and, bingo, receive $30,000 a year, tax-free. That's more than someone making $15 an hour, and they have to pay taxes to boot!
Now, in defense of the Veterans Administration, they are doing what they can with what they've got. This is precious little compared to what they should have to get the job done. At least this country has a VA. It's the Senate that keeps passing laws, rules and guidelines, cutting their budget, denying requests for more staff and computer systems to handle the massive work flow. Their hands are tied by the very government that's supposed to give them what they need to get the job done, by the government you voted into office.. Don't scream at the VA. I have. It's misguided anger.
The point to this “story?” Just why are you paying such high taxes to support this incredibly screwed-up government? Why? And I’m not proposing you stop paying your taxes. That's wrong. There are good programs and reasons to pay your taxes and support our government. What am I proposing? It's quite simple. Vote.
The government, our government, is broken and we as the voters serve as the maintenance crew. We fix it .. . .. . . by voting.
If your state Senator has been in office more then two terms, vote 'em out at the next election. If your state representative has been in office more then two terms, vote 'em out of office. We put term limits on just about every publicly-elected official in the country except the House and Senate. Why? Believe me, they know this and love it! Ahhh - the power!
I don't care how much you believe your Senator or Representative is doing a good job. They're not! Look at the government you have, that we have. How can you state they are doing what you want as the voter that put them there? How?
Vote them out of office. Do it.
Change the course of this country's history by what you are granted and guaranteed under the law. Vote! And if you have the guts, the anger, the outrage, start a petition in your state for a state-wide initiative to be placed on your next state ballot. Limiting the terms of office for your state senators and state representatives to your federal government to two terms.
The federal government will never pass such a law, but you can. You can get it done. You can force it. You can make it a law.
This is the first step in “getting it right.” Just vote. It's simple. It's easy, dammit!
This first step will send a very clear message. It’ll work. It’ill put “us” back in control of “them.” As it should be. As it was intended in the first place.

The True Agenda of Immigration Protests

Immigrant-rights protesters in Denver on Saturday blocked city streets while chanting “Si se puede!” (Yes we can!) and waving Mexican flags. Behind these seemingly spontaneous protest marches against Arizona’s tough immigration law are well-organized groups, some that have an agenda of reclaiming America for their race.
The un-American or anti-American façade of the protests is bad enough, but the reality of the “immigrant rights” movement is even worse. Here is a rundown of the groups behind the protests:
MEChA: MEChA, an acronym for Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán, organized protests against the Arizona law on college campus across the country, most noticeably at elite institutions such as Cornell, Yale, and Stanford. MEChA describes itself as “part of our Raza’s future,” “raza” being the Spanish word for “race.” They argue that they are “Indigenous people to this land by placing our movement in Aztlan.” Aztlan is a legendary homeland for pre-Columbian Mexican cultures but has also become the touchstone for radical organizations which claim that most of Southwestern United States is Mexican territory occupied by Americans. MEChA fits that mold with their call to “undertake a struggle for liberation.”
National Council of La Raza: Another major force in “immigrant rights” is National Council of La Raza, the perhaps the best-known Hispanic interest group and an organization whose racism is built right into their name. On La Raza’s web site they describe some principles governing their approach to “comprehensive immigration reform” (a synonym for amnesty in today’s political discussions), including “getting the 12 million undocumented people in our country to come forward, obtain legal status, learn English, and as sume the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.” To be fair, La Raza claims to support “smart enforcement policies that uphold national security and the Constitution,” but the real effort here is clear: to create millions of new voters, voters who are likely to earn lower-than-average wages and likely to support the Democratic Party.
FIRM (Fair Immigration Reform Movement): FIRM is an umbrella group of “grassroots organizations fighting for immigrant rights.” They take credit for being “the cornerstone of the people-led movement that derailed the inhumane and unworkable immigration laws pushed by congressional leaders (in 2006).”
FIRM supports “the right of undocumented immigrant children to a public school education.” FIRM was organized by the Center for Community Change (CCC), a group run by a former high-ranking employee of ACORN, and whose board of directors is packed with radica l leftists, union activists, and the executive director of MoveOn.org. The CCC believes that “everyone should have a voice in the decisions that affect our lives and be fully engaged in our democracy.”
Somos Un Pueblo Unido: This Santa Fe, N.M.-based group helped organize protests in that city, causing one to question the accuracy of the group’s very name, that “We Are a United Town.” Somos pushes, among other things, for “access [to] in-state tuition and state financial aid regardless of immigration status” and claims to have been “instrumental in establishing one of the nation's highest citywide minimum wage.” Groups like Somos argue that higher minimum wages are good for the entire community, but a far more likely outcome is that legal, i.e. American, low-skilled and young workers will be priced out of jobs while illegal workers who get paid under the table will work for less than the leg al minimum wage.
El Centro de Igualdad y Derechos (The Center for Equality and Rights): This Albuquerque-based group kindly lets us know that “regardless of our nationality or immigration status, we all have rights” and which writes documents for immigrants, legal and otherwise, on the topic. El Centro reminds illegal immigrants that they are entitled to receive workers’ compensation if injured during work, that they have the right to participate in political protests (during non-work hours), that even if they can’t vote they “can participate in a political campaign…testify in hearings, and personally speak to politicians and policy makers,” and that they should teach their children not to open the door for immigration officers.
Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the AFL-CIO: Perhaps most the most insidious groups organizing protests against enf orcing American immigration law are large labor unions, most notably SEIU and the AFL-CIO. An executive director of SEIU said that the union “will not be deterred” in their quest for amnesty, a major change for unions which were formerly opponents of such plans due to fear that the new workers would compete with their members. (In 2001, Vernon Briggs wrote an excellent and still relevant discussion of the history of the labor movement and immigration.) Now, they believe they’ll be able to unionize illegal immigrants if the illegals received amnesty.
As we watch protesters in the streets of America, chanting in a language other than English, waving flags other than that of the United States, perhaps we all need to thank the legislators and governor of Arizona for pushing back against the menacing cries of “Si se puede.” Sorry, La Raza, Mecha, and SEIU, but No, You Can’t.

The marriage will be interesting, the divorce spectacular. Here’s the story.
The Dream
For more than a thousand years Europe has been addicted to a terrible myth. Called the Pax Romana, or the Roman Peace, this myth says that for two centuries beginning in 31 BC the Roman Empire was peaceful and prosperous due to a large, powerful central government that kept everyone in line.
European statists pine for a return to the Pax Romana, never mind that the Pax Romana did not happen. The 200-year “Pax” was filled with tyranny, assassinations, terror, rebellions, foreign wars and civil wars. Let me emphasize, civil wars. The Hebrew revolt in 70 AD was only one of many throughout the empire. Statists rarely let facts interfere with their dreams.
The Pax Romana is the fantasy at the heart of the United Nations and most other such schemes to “unite” the world under one strong central government.
Unity has never worked in Europe, but this didn’t keep Charlemagne, Ivan the Terrible, Napoleon, Hitler and Mussolini from trying it. For centuries the guiding philosophy of Europe’s rulers has been that of the Roman Empire, fascism.
The symbol of fascism is the Roman fasces, a bundle of rods joined with a battle ax. The bundled rods symbolize political unity. The ax indicates what happens to anyone who refuses to submit to this unity.
Fascism was respectable and popular until Hitler and Mussolini showed where it ultimately leads. And, fascism remains popular, especially among statists, but no one uses the word anymore.
The Deadly Heritage
Travel around Europe looking at art and architecture, and you will see the fasces everywhere, especially in Paris and Vienna, which were the capitals of the French Empire and the Holy Roman Empire.
Fascism is the simplest of all political philosophies, it boils down to 11 words: power holders should do whatever appears necessary, no exceptions, no limits.[1]
If socialism appears necessary, fine. If free markets appear necessary, fine. Tyranny, fine. Liberty, fine. And, if changing systems overnight appears necessary, this is fine, too.
Now freed from the burden of its name, the philosophy has spread like a plague, and is probably the most popular in the world. I call it the Roman disease.
The basic style of Roman architecture is a pediment[2] over columns. This appears on thousands of buildings throughout Europe (and the US).
The facade of the famous Ritz Hotel in Paris is a pediment with columns, plus decorations that include a fasces. Walk out the front door of the Ritz and you see in the city square, Napoleon’s Column. This is a copy of Emperor Trajan’s Column in Rome. On top of the column, Napoleon wears a Roman toga.
Europeans are so immersed in Roman symbolism that to them the Roman disease seems perfectly natural. One of the seldom mentioned embarrassing facts of World War II is that as Hitler rose in Germany, millions outside Germany were drawn to him, too. In Austria, steeped in Roman tradition, Hitler may have been more popular than he was in Germany.
When the Germans invaded France, half the country formed an alliance with them, basing the capital at the city of Vichy. Most of the French Foreign Legion sided with the Vichy government and fought on the side of the Germans.
For people bathed in Roman heritage, the strong central government that promises to do whatever appears necessary is a powerful temptation.
The fasces is depicted far more in the art and architecture of the modern world than in those of the Roman Empire itself. In Vienna I have counted no less than a dozen fasces decorating the exterior of the Belvedere Palace.

The Plan
The latest manifestation of the Roman disease is the European Union. Centered around the French and German economies, the EU is a project hatched by European statists in the 1950s. Their plan is to create a United States of Europe under one strong, central government.
Right from the start the statists knew that the typical European would not soon forget the catastrophes of Hitler and Mussolini. The next campaign to revive the Pax Romana and “unite” Europe would have to be done gradually over decades.
One of the final and most important steps in this gradual process is the abolishment of national currencies and creation of a single European currency called the euro.
France and Germany are at the center of the euro bloc, called Euroland. On May 3, others that agreed to join Euroland were Austria, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. The euro will be launched in January. The EU hopes to pull in Britain, Greece, Denmark and Sweden later.
The EU already has a flag[3] and a national anthem.
The Legal Reality
Break a law and what happens to you? Men with guns show up at your door and haul you away to prison.
Law is force. If you are a European and your government joins the EU, you suddenly have 80,000 pages[4] of new laws dumped onto you.
This 80,000 pages of EU law is a stack of paper 26 feet high. You could not possibly read it, much less understand and obey it. The only thing you can be certain about is that hidden within these 80,000 pages are a lot of nasty surprises. EU lawmakers have been very busy doing what they think necessary. The Roman disease.
In short, once your government shoves you into the EU, your life is in the clutches of a distant bureaucracy you don’t understand and didn’t vote for
The Economic Reality
Each nation in Europe has had its own currency for centuries, and therefore has a level of malinvestment peculiar to itself. I’ll explain.
Money responds to the law of supply and demand just as everything else does. When the number of units of money is increased, the value of each individual unit falls, and prices rise to compensate.
So, inflation is not rising prices, it is a rising money supply that causes rising prices.
When a government inflates its money supply, the new money does not descend on the economy in a uniform blanket. It goes into specific areas, usually those that are fashionable, or those at which the government directs the money through its own spending or regulations.
Businesses crowd into areas that are receiving these extra flows of money. They invest in stores, offices, factories, machines and other capital to tap into the flows. The more money flows into an area, the more capital is created there.
In effect, the money pours into the economy like thick molasses poured into a bathtub from hundreds of pitchers. This creates cones of money, and businesses crowd into these cones.
The cones are not natural. Businesses would not move into these areas if money were not poured there, they’d go elsewhere. So, the businesses in these cones are not investment, they are malinvestment. When the government stops inflating, the cones wither; businesses dependent on the flow of money starve.
For centuries, each of the dozens of European governments have inflated their money supplies at varying rates, and pumped the money into widely varying areas so that each country has a different landscape of cones.
Each cone landscape is dependent on a different rate of inflation, and a different mix of regulations and spending policies, or pitchers. The stores, offices and factories are there, real and solid, each dependent on its own unique cone of money.
By switching to one currency for all, the European Union is imposing a single rate of money creation on all its members. Unity. One government, one currency. The Roman disease.
This necessarily starves a lot of cones and creates a lot of new ones, but not uniformly; some geographic areas are winners and others losers. This is called “asymmetric shock.” (This process is fully explained in my short Uncle Eric book, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO PENNY CANDY? and in THE CLIPPER SHIP STRATEGY.)
Looking at it on a nation by nation basis, presently Ireland, Finland, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain are expanding so strongly they show signs of inflationary bubbles. For them, monetary policy is loose.
France and Germany, which account for 55% of the Euroland economy, are depressed; for them, monetary policy is tight.
If you were running Euroland’s monetary policy, would you tighten or loosen?
An Insurmountable Obstacle
The theory is that over time things will smooth over. The old malinvestment will be shaken out, new euro cones will grow, and everyone will be better off due to more open trade between countries.
The model the statists point to is the US, which has 50 states but only one currency and few trade barriers between states.
Wishful thinking blinds statists to the fact that the US also has just one language. When a cone in Seattle dies, workers in that cone can move to a new cone in Omaha. People in Omaha speak the same language. Workers from Seattle can learn new jobs and go to work alongside others from Pittsburgh, Detroit and Boise.
When cones die in Paris, the workers cannot move to Dublin, they don’t speak Irish. They are stuck in Paris demanding that their government support them until their cones return, which may be never.
Another Insurmountable Obstacle
Inhabitants of the New World generally think of a country as an entity formed by smaller states that came together voluntarily.
In the Old World, voluntary formations are almost unknown, nearly every country was formed by conquest. Large, powerful governments “unified” their nations by killing anyone who refused to join. The fasces, the ax, the Roman disease.
Italy, for instance, did not become the country we see on maps today until it was “unified” at gunpoint by Victor Emmanuel in 1870. Germany was unified by Bismarck in 1871; Yugoslavia by Peter I in 1918.
These “unifications” have left a lot of hard feelings throughout the Old World. Millions feel more loyalty to their local ancestral groups than to their governments.
Ask an Italian his nationality and he may not say Italian, he may say Milano, Viennese or Genoese, referring to his city. Northern Italians especially want nothing to do with the underdeveloped south and are embarrassed to have connections with it. In their minds, everything below Rome is Africa.
Many areas of Europe already feel the squeeze from the movement toward a single currency. The EU’s unemployment rate averages a crushing 11%. As cones die, groups dependent on them feel they have been sold out by their governments. And, of course, they are right. They have been sacrificed to “the greater good,” meaning the EU, the same EU that is forcing 80,000 pages of new laws onto them. They hate the EU and — this is my most important point — they increasingly hate their own governments for selling them out to the EU.
I was in France during the May signing. In some towns we saw the EU flag flying over the French flag, and the French flag above the local flag.
What caught my eye was that in some areas the local flag was flying above those of France and the EU. The message was clear, and ominous, as when states in the American South flew their flags over that of the US, just before the Civil War.
The next decade will be most interesting, warn everyone you care about.

Money responds to the law of supply and demand just as everything else does. When the number of units of money is increased, the value of each individual unit falls, and prices rise to compensate.
So, inflation is not rising prices, it is a rising money supply that causes rising prices.
When a government inflates its money supply, the new money does not descend on the economy in a uniform blanket. It goes into specific areas, usually those that are fashionable, or those at which the government directs the money through its own spending or regulations.
Businesses crowd into areas that are receiving these extra flows of money. They invest in stores, offices, factories, machines and other capital to tap into the flows. The more money flows into an area, the more capital is created there.
In effect, the money pours into the economy like thick molasses poured into a bathtub from hundreds of pitchers. This creates cones of money, and businesses crowd into these cones.
The cones are not natural. Businesses would not move into these areas if money were not poured there, they’d go elsewhere. So, the businesses in these cones are not investment, they are malinvestment. When the government stops inflating, the cones wither; businesses dependent on the flow of money starve.
For centuries, each of the dozens of European governments have inflated their money supplies at varying rates, and pumped the money into widely varying areas so that each country has a different landscape of cones.

I was in France during the May signing. In some towns we saw the EU flag flying over the French flag, and the French flag above the local flag.
What caught my eye was that in some areas the local flag was flying above those of France and the EU. The message was clear, and ominous, as when states in the American South flew their flags over that of the US, just before the Civil War.

If socialism appears necessary, fine. If free markets appear necessary, fine. Tyranny, fine. Liberty, fine. And, if changing systems overnight appears necessary, this is fine, too.

I was in France during the May signing. In some towns we saw the EU flag flying over the French flag, and the French flag above the local flag.
What caught my eye was that in some areas the local flag was flying above those of France and the EU. The message was clear, and ominous, as when states in the American South flew their flags over that of the US, just before the Civil War.
The next decade will be most interesting, warn everyone you care about.
